REQUEST A BAG
The Hummingbird Project provides a small bag of comfort to those about to start or are currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment. The bags are full of items to help comfort and provide relief of some of the most common chemotherapy and treatment-related side effects.
Each package includes the following:
- Soft Bristle Toothbrush - for sore mouths and gums
- Lip Balm - to moisturize dry and cracked lips
- Unscented Lotion - to provide relief from dry and itchy skin
- Protein Bite - protein is essential for recovery and to keep your energy up! (contains nuts)
- Soothing Tea - to bring warmth and ward off nausea
- Hand Sanitizer - to keep the germs away and your immune system strong
- Kleenex - because sniffles, and tears happen
- Bald is My Strong card redeemable for a free head shave at one of our participating salons, when the time is right for you.
- Rock of Courage - a tribute to my father who passed away of lung cancer and held a rock with the word courage on it right til the end. The rocks are hand painted with love by our local community to help give strength and courage when you need it the most
Everything in our bags is generously supported by our corporate sponsors and donated by local businesses and communities that wish to brighten the day of someone living with cancer.
Our ultimate goal is to make these packages available across Canada. However due to our current size and available resources, including funding and volunteers we are currently able to provide to Manitoba residents only. As we grow our areas of service will grow as well!

Who Can Receive a Bag?
It is currently the mission of The Hummingbird Project to provide these gifts to those living with cancer and who are currently undergoing treatment as the contents are meant to help ease the side effects of cancer-related treatments.
Are you affiliated with Cancer Care?
The Hummingbird Project is completely separate from Cancer Care Manitoba and we receive no funding from them. We are a grassroots non-profit organization that is committed to directly impacting those living with cancer.
How Does Delivery Work?
To keep our costs down, local delivery will be made with the help of our awesome volunteers to the following areas:
- City of Winnipeg
- East St. Paul
- Selkirk
- Lockport
- Tyndall
- Garson
- West St. Paul
- Oakbank
- Dugald
For all other areas packages will be mailed via Canada Post. As we continue to grow and reach more people we will be able to establish volunteers in other locations in order to reduce our shipping costs.
Please note the following:
- We cannot hand deliver to apartment buildings and PO Boxes, packages to those addresses will always be mailed.
- We do not deliver/ship to hospitals
- Deliveries will be made in the morning on the last Saturday of each month. We do not require your recipient to be at home, however we do ask that you let them know that you have requested a package for them. This way your recipient is not surprised to get a package from one of our volunteers or in the mail. If you recipient is not home, then we will leave it in the mailbox or between the doors.
- Limit one package per address.
Do you accept bulk requests for packages, i.e. from community programs, support groups etc.?
Yes! We would love to be involved in helping support others living with cancer through community programs and support groups. Please contact us directly, we would love to hear from you!
Can I Make a Donation for the Bag?
Absolutely! Any donations are greatly appreciated, it's how we continue to reach more people. Donations can be made through our site here. Please note that we are NOT a registered charity and do not issue tax receipts.
